Campfire Ashes

1st Lightwater Scouts is very proud to look after and pass on ashes from over 350 campfires, going back to 1933!

Ashes taken from a campfire are sprinkled into the flames of the next campfire. The next day when the ashes are cold, they are stirred and taken along to mix with the next campfire. If more than one Scout brings ashes to the same campfire the lists are polled, with all the dates and places recorded and passed on. It is traditional that only those present at the ceremony carry away ashes from that campfire.

It is our wish that this tradition continues and we spread the World Fellowship of Scouting.

Come and join our Campfire!

We carry our friendship with us in these ashes from other campfires with other comrades in other lands. May the joining of the fires with the leaping flames symbolize once more the unbroken chain that binds Scouts and Guides around the world. With greetings from Scouts everywhere, these ashes have been carried by Scouts around the world.
